Memory Makers: Youth for Historical Remembrance Online Summit Programme

Overview

On Friday, 9 October 2026, the Memory Makers partnership will come together online for the Memory Makers: Youth for Historical Remembrance Summit, the final event celebrating the project’s journey, learning and achievements.

The Summit will bring together project partners, researchers, educators, guest speakers and young people to explore how we can keep historical remembrance meaningful for new generations. Through a series of short presentations and conversations, the event will examine Holocaust education, underrepresented histories, youth participation, human rights, digital communication and the continuing legacies of discrimination and racism.

The programme will include contributions from Momentum, Jagiellonian University, Active Youth Institute, Istorima and the European Centre for Human Rights, alongside young people and invited experts. Discussions will range from Teaching the Holocaust to the Next Generation and Empowering the Next Generation to a fireside conversation exploring contemporary approaches to remembrance. The programme will also address Antigypsyism, the Roma Genocide, the Holocaust and racism, considering why the legacies of the past remain relevant today.

At the heart of the Summit is a simple but important idea: remembrance is not only about looking back. It is also about what we choose to carry forward. Participants will be invited to reflect on the lessons of Memory Makers and consider how education, dialogue, youth engagement and responsible storytelling can help ensure that difficult histories continue to inform our understanding of human rights today.

The Summit will conclude by looking towards sustainability and the future of the work, asking how the learning and approaches developed through Memory Makers can continue beyond the lifetime of the project.
